Greyson Chance terkejut dengan sambutan fans nya di Indonesia
Menggelar showcase bertajuk Greyson Chance, Hold on Til The Night Jakarta Promo di Hard Rock Cafe, Jakarta Pusat, Rabu (23/11), penyanyi asal Amerika, Greyson Chance langsung terpana dengan sambutan hangat penggemarnya di Indonesia.
Ratusan fans yang memadati venue, saking antusiasnya malah saling dorong dan beberapa kali diingatkan oleh pihak penyelenggara, bahkan oleh Greyson sebelum memulai aksinya.
"Sebelum memulai show, saya mau memastikan kalian semua aman dan nyaman. Pastikan kalian berhati-hati," ucap pemilik nama lengkap Greyson Michael Chance.
Lagu hits Unfriend dan Summer Train menjadi pembuka, sebelum pria kelahiran 16 Agustus 1997 ini mengutarakan keterkejutannya akan antusiasme penonton yang sebagian besar adalah remaja, di Jakarta.
"Saya sangat terkesan dan senang dengan fans di sini. Dan lagu yang akan saya nyanyikan ini, saya persembahkan khusus buat kalian semua. Penggemar yang sudah menginspirasi saya," lanjutnya seraya mengumbar senyum dan mendentingkan tuts piano melantunkan lagu Home Is In Your Eyes, yang disusul lagu Paparazzi-nya Lady Gaga, yang telah mengantarkan ketenaran pada dirinya lewat Youtube, lagu Chayenne, serta Hold On Til The Night.

Ketika mulai memainkan tuts-tuts pianonya dengan mahir dan menyanyikan lagu hits, "Unfriend You", Greyson tampak serius. Dia terlihat menghayati lagu itu dan sesekali tersenyum untuk fansnya. Para fans yang menyaksikan penampilan panggung Greyson itu terus berteriak, bahkan masih ada yang menangis.

JAKARTA - Rabu, 23 November lalu, Greyson Chance, 14, idola remaja baru dari Witchita Falls, Texas, AS, mengadakan konser mini di Hard Rock Cafe, Jakarta Pusat. Dia datang untuk mempromosikan album perdananya, Hold On "till the Night.
Esoknya (24/11) di Hotel Intercontinental Jakarta Midplaza, Sudirman, Jakarta Pusat, Jawa Pos berkesempatan untuk ngobrol dengan cowok imut tersebut. Di ruang Lotus 5 Jawa Pos menunggu kedatangan Chance. Sekitar pukul 13.00 dia masuk ke ruang tersebut. Apa yang diperlihatkan cowok yang memiliki nama lengkap Greyson Michael Chance tersebut membuat terpana.
Setelah masuk, Chance tidak berucap hai, lalu duduk di kursinya. Dia superramah. Dia menghampiri para reporter dan menyalami semua orang ada di ruang tersebut. Termasuk para fotografer yang berdiri belakang. "Hi, hello. I"m Greyson. Nice to meet you," katanya dengan ramah seraya tersenyum.
Chance mengatakan itu setiap kali bersalaman. Jadi, dia berjalan mengelilingi ruang untuk bersalaman dengan setiap orang. Setelah semua disalami, baru dia duduk di kursinya. "Ow" somebody is old school," katanya sambil memegang tape recorder milik salah seorang reporter.
Di meja wartawan memang meletakkan perekam suara. Ada yang menggunakan BlackBerry. Ada juga yang menggunakan perekam suara masa kini yang bentuknya tipis dan handy. Nah, ada satu perekam dengan model jadul dan masih menggunakan kaset. Itu yang menarik perhatian pelantun Waiting Outside the Lines tersebut. "I like that," katanya lagi.
Chance lantas menceritakan hari-harinya selama berada di Jakarta. Setelah tampil di showcase dan melihat langsung reaksi para penggemar, dia cukup terkejut. "Showcase kemarin sangat fantastis. Ramai sekali. Banyak sekali fans yang menonton. Mereka rela berdesak-desakan. Semua berteriak. Saya ikut merasakan histeria mereka. Saya kan belum pernah ke sini," terangnya.
Semua yang terjadi pada Chance bermula dari video di YouTube. Video yang di-posting pada April 2010 itu memperlihatkan dia saat menyanyi Paparazzi milik Lady Gaga sambil bermain piano. Waktu itu dia tampil di choir event di tempat tinggalnya, Oklahoma.
Video tersebut lantas ditonton lebih dari 40 juta orang sampai sekarang. Salah satu yang menonton adalah produser talk show The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Selanjutnya, Chance tampil di acara itu.
Video Paparazzi tersebut membuka banyak pintu kesempatan bagi penyuka masakan Meksiko itu. Beberapa minggu setelah kemunculan keduanya di The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Chance diumumkan menjadi artis pertama di label barunya, eleveneleven. Selanjutnya, album pertamanya dirilis. Dia menjadi terkenal di mana-mana.
"Semua terjadi karena Ellen. Tanpa dia, tidak mungkin semua ini bisa terjadi. Dia sangat men-support saya dan musik saya dari awal. Well, saya tidak pernah memprediksi sebelumnya. Berharap sih pernah, tetapi saya tidak menyangka bahwa semua ini benar-benar terjadi," ungkapnya.
Ketika ditanya apa yang akan dilakukan jika tidak menjadi penyanyi, dia bingung menjawab. "Jadi apa ya kalau sekarang tidak jadi penyanyi? Jadi anak biasa seperti yang lain atau jadi fotografer saja. Sepertinya, itu cool," katanya, lantas tertawa.
Chance mulai bermain piano sejak berumur delapan tahun. Dalam album debutnya dia tidak hanya menyanyi. Dia juga ikut menulis lagu. Tujuh di antara sebelas di album tersebut ditulis Chance. Hal tersebut tidak biasa dilakukan penyanyi remaja.
"Saya memang menulis banyak lagu di album. Saya juga bekerja sama dengan penulis lagu lainnya. Saya ingin kerja keras ini juga ikut dirasakan dan didengar oleh penggemar. Saya membuat lagu-lagu ini dari hati," terangnya.
Chance menuturkan bahwa inspirasi bisa datang dari mana saja. "Ada yang terinspirasi dari teman, tempat yang saya kunjungi, kehidupan sehari-hari, serta perasaan saat sedang marah dan senang. Dari mana saja," terangnya. Awalnya, Chance merasa aneh saat mengikuti proses pembuatan lagu. Kadang, dia harus berada di studio tiga jam, bahkan sampai 14 jam.
"Ternyata, proses membuat sebuah lagu bermacam-macam. Kadang, satu lagu bisa selesai dengan cepat dan mudah. Tetapi, ada juga yang selesai lama, seperti Running Away. Itu lagu dengan proses paling lama, enam bulan. Yang paling menantang, menurut saya, adalah membuat diri menjadi disiplin. On May 15, 2010, The Christian Science Monitor published an article written by Gloria Goodale, a staff writer for the publication; citing Chance's quick rise to media attention and the establishment of various official and fan websites for Chance, as well as concerns raised by music industry analyst Jeff Snyder about the quality of the video itself, Goodale asked “whether there's a Big Media hand behind sixth grader Greyson Michael Chance.”[15] On May 18, 2010, Goodale followed up on this article with a second article for The Christian Science Monitor focusing on the modern "age of media manipulation", which she introduced by saying, "Reports so far suggest that the Greyson Chance YouTube video is legit."[39] On May 18, 2010, ITN News posted a video report to its YouTube channel, in which many of the same questions were raised; highlighting aspects of Chance's "Paparazzi" video, media industry analyst Alan Stevens pointed out the growing inability within our modern media culture to distinguish between videos which are produced by amateurs and videos which are produced by professionals but made to appear amateur in origin.[40]
His debut single title "Waiting Outside the Lines" was released to iTunes on October 26, 2010. It was released digitally in the UK on December 9. The single also contained a studio version of his cover of Lady Gaga's "Paparazzi". In early December 2010 he visited both Paris and London, appearing on local radio stations and giving private concerts in both cities.[41][42]
On February 5,[43] Greyson Chance entered the National spotlight again with an appearance/performance of "Waiting Outside The Lines" on the CBS Early Show, while stopping through New York on his tour with Miranda Cosgrove.
On May 17, 2011 his new single "Unfriend You" was released to iTunes.[44]
On April 9, he started the Waiting 4U tour with Australian pop/R&B singer Cody Simpson in Ivins, Utah. The tour ended on May 18, 2011 in Portland, Oregon.
On May 23, Greyson visited The Ellen DeGeneres Show to premiere his new single, "Unfriend You". After the performance, Greyson revealed a solid release date for his upcoming debut album, Hold On 'Til the Night, which is set to be released on August 2, 2011. The music video features cameo from Victorious star, Ariana Grande.[45]
On September 15, he again appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show to talk about his album, and also revealed that he had taken his first steps into acting, portraying a younger version of Jimmy Chance, the protagonist of Raising Hope, in the series' second season premiere.[46]

Chance's "Paparazzi" cover video was posted to YouTube, on April 28, 2010, and for almost two weeks the video generated low views. At least two social websites, GossipBoy.ca and reddit.com, posted video embeds on May 10, 2010. Ellen DeGeneres first saw the video after Chance's brother, Tanner Chance, wrote to her show suggesting she watch it.[6] The video had about 10,000 views when DeGeneres first saw it;[7] while explaining her reasons for naming her new record label "eleveneleven", she listed as one reason the fact that she first saw Chance's Paparazzi cover on May 11, 2010. Also, she states that 11 is Greyson's soccer jersey number.[8] On the afternoon of May 11, Yahoo! Music reported: "As of this writing, the video has got more than 36,000 views so far, and he's even been invited to perform on The Ellen DeGeneres Show".[3]On May 12, 2010 Greyson Chance taped an interview and performance of "Paparazzi" for Ellen in Los Angeles.[9] It was broadcast on May 13.[10][11] During the interview, Chance received a phone call from Lady Gaga,[12] who the boy says is his "true inspiration."[13] This first appearance on Ellen was followed by a second appearance on the show, airing May 26, 2010, on which Chance performed his original song "Broken Hearts," received a $10,000.00 award for winning Ellen's Wonderful Web of Wonderment contest, a brand new Yamaha piano, and was announced as DeGeneres's first signed artist to her new recording label eleveneleven.[14] Chance now has many fans on online social sites such as Facebook and Twitter.[15] He is the 28th most subscribed musician of all time on YouTube, with a 286,000 subscriber base, as of January 3, 2011.[16] Greyson Chance also appeared at We Day (also known as Me to We Day 2010) in downtown Toronto at the Air Canada Centre, where he performed "Fire" by Augustana.[17]

Of his inspiration, Chance said, "I love artists who are able to communicate their emotions through music and sing from the heart. That’s what I’m hoping to do with my songs." He is emboldened by Lady Gaga; after seeing her performance of "Paparazzi" at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, he said: "I was awestruck by her performance. I love her sense of drama and theatricality, plus she’s an amazing singer and piano player." Chance is also inspired by Christina Aguilera, rock band Augustana, R&B singer John Legend, singer-songwriter Elton John, and John Lennon, of The Beatles
